And the story marches on, and on, and on!  We’ve got a new page up, and another one is almost complete. We are trying very hard to get back onto a regular schedule here with our updates, folks, so fear not!  Eventually, all will work as planned, and we will get back to a regular, twice  a week update. Can you imagine such a world?  I can!  It is a world where milk and honey flow like water, and the streets are paved with gold (or cheese, I cannot remember which).  Anywho, we will continue to fight the good fight, and our characters will continue to fight as well. So tell your friends! Tell your families!  WTB Dignity is kikcin’ it old school, just like we used to.

Nyota gets a little excited sometimes, but can you blame her after the glorious destruction that Harold wrought?  I certainly can’t, because it was totally awesome.  Awesome to the max, some might say.  And some might go as far as to say “awesome to the maxx” with two X’s, because it just has that high of a radical factor.

We are currently tossing around the idea of putting together a WTB Dignity book, called “WTB Digntiy: Volume 1″.  it would basically be the first 104 pages of the comic together in one paperback book, which would be amazing.  Also, we would include somewhere around 20 extra pages of behind the scenes content that has never before been seen on the web, such as character sketches and designs, and a few other odds and ends, such as commentary, a couple of unpublished comic pages, and the like.  Sound like something you would be interested in?  It’s something that I would be interested in, make no mistake!  I’m always excited to see my work in a tangible, physical format that I can hold and smell.  It tends to make me somewhat giddy, because I feel like I’ve actually created something at that point, you know?

Today’s target: Capcom vs Tatsunoko!  I think you get the general gist of how I feel about the game from Ryu’s reaction to the fight he has been thrown into.  You tell ‘im, Ryu!  A star of your caliber can’t fight just anyone.

Tomorrow we will have the next page of WTB Dignity up and running, featuring the one and only Handsome Waltke once more, in his new job as the Pirate King; retired from his old position as King of the Bandits, obviously.  He now runs with the aquatic banditos.

On a completely unrelated note, I’ve been doing a lot of television commercial productions this month; I’m up to 5 so far, which is more than I’ve ever had come my way in one month.  Not that I couldn’t handle more, hell, I could knock out five in a day or two… but, never had the opportunity before.  Now that Comcast is throwing some jobs my way, the amount I’ve done has gone up a tinge.  They are also hiring me to be the voice over talent for the spots as well, which is nice.  Sort of giving me a bit of a leg up on my VO career.  So, in the next few months, I hope to purchase a snazzy little microphone I’ve been reading about oh so much, and to launch myself forward a bit in the VO biz.  Wish me luck ‘n whatnot!

The next page comes along presently, as it does.  I’m sure you can see where this is going.  Or, come to think of it, maybe you can’t.  All I’m going to say is that we are going to delve into the why and how of Raz being the only living skeleton with a mind of its own.  Awww yeeeaaaahhh.

oh, sweet irony!  Somewhere along the lines, we lost the little “login” on the side… so now it’s back!  Right underneath the comment wall on the right side.  Boom!

On a side note, Mr. Weisner and I have pretty much finished up all of our pending jobs.  Right now, are docket is pretty much completely empty for the moment, which is never too good.  Sure, we have a side project we’re trying to roll out, but since Weisner got back onto WoW this week, it’s been slow.  The only thing I’ve seen him do for three days now is Raid and PvP.  Needless to say, side project = side tracked!  Honestly, what we really need is another animator or two.  I would love for there to be more than just the two of us… but what can you do?  most people won’t work for hours on end for nothing more than “fun”, unfortunately, which puts us in the position we are in at the moment.  And with no more jobs on the to-do list, it doesn’t look like we’ll be paying anyone for assistance anytime soon.  Such is the way of things!

Best I can figure, this is simply the way things will stay for some time, until we can really get a nice ball rolling (the ultimate goal).  So far, it’s been working out fairly well, and we have certainly been able to maintain (for the most part) a nice and steady web comic.  Hell, the fact that we’ve managed to pump out over 100 pages is, to me, astonishing!  I don’t think I have ever worked on one project or job for this long… you know over 1 whole year.  And I’m not even bored with it!  That just means that we will continue to press forward and publish more and more unique content.  Who can ask for more than that?

One more thing:  I’ve been doing this whole “Name a Berserker” contest… and no one is entering it!  No one!  Only two entries in weeks!  I think it might just be time to wrap it up… who would have thought that our readers HATE the notion of getting free swag?  I mean, who hates swag?  Who?!  Apparently, the answer to that question is, decisively, you. I’ll wait another week or two to see if anyone else wants to enter into the contest, you know, just to see.  It’s over on the forums!  Go to the forums!  Go and see.  I urge you.

Bet you’ve been wondering where Fumpy’s been, haven’t you?  If you haven’t, then what the hell?  How could you have forgotten about Frumpy?!  FYI, we still really want to make Frumpy Plush dolls.  If you have any info on a good supplier, please drop us a line, as we are flying dark when it comes to that.

So yeah, might as well call Frumpy Bilbo mutha-f****in’ Baggins from here on out. I hope you all enjoy the reference as much as we do.

On an exciting note, we have breached 70 pages of content!  Even more when you throw in our useless fillers!  But, when we hit the big 1-0-0, we are absolutely going to debut it in a nice, smelly, printed book. Well, somewhere around 100 pages… give or take, depending on when this current story arc crescendos.  And each book will also contain a never before seen short comic story line about Raz, that we will NEVER put online.  Do you hear me?  NEVER!  So, you know, that’s incentive to buy if I’ve ever seen it.  Because I know you want to know what happens to Raz in a completely unrelated storyline.  Here’s a hint to what it will be: buy the book and read it for yourself.

But seriously, I hate gnomes.  But I love Weisner’s design for gnomes. They’re awesome, and should prove to be lots of fun, especially for what we have in store.

As we trudge deeper into the next chapter of WTB Dignity, the next obstacle for our gang seems relatively clear: re-acquaint a certain goblin with a certain engine.  How this goes about, and who has his engine and why, might surprise you. As usual, I am attempting to have wheels within wheels, and plots withing plots. every body’s gotta have a motive: what’s yours?

That brings me to another important point in comic and story writing: motivation. For any good story, all of your characters, and I do mean all of them, need sound motivation to move forward in the story.  Your story and your character’s motivation is paramount.  If you have a scene, or sequence, or dialogue that does not expressly move the story or your characters forward, or closer to their goals, then all you are doing is wasting time.  Trim the fat, and keep moving!

For instance, at this moment in time, all of the characters in WTBD have their own personal motivations, and none of them have been met.  Kylianna wants to travel with Harold and Raz for both protection and the opportunity to earn/steal what she needs to pay off her debts (that story about having to prove er worth to her people was a blatant, and dubious lie). Raz wants to redeem himself with the Orc clans, the only people who really accept him (as he is somewhat of an anomaly). Nytoa seeks adventure and excitement, a break away from her prim-and-proper upbringing; not to mention she still wants to see if she can’t break Raz’s will so he’ll be her boyfriend. Regerar wants to get paid, and even the goblin needs something: his engine back, so he can get back into business once more.

You see, the moment you fail to have a reason, a solid reason for your characters to be doing what they are doing, your readers immediately stop to ask “why?” and it breaks them out of the world that you have created.  It destroys the illusion.  You want it to all fit together, to make sense, and for your reader to never stop to think about why, but to simply know why.  And if you have a scene, action, panel, dialogue, whatever… that doesn’t progress you ever closer to each of your characters goals; then ll you have done is wasted time with pointless filler.  That may be a harsh reality, but it comes from my background and experience as a screen writer. And, what’s true for stories on the silver screen is true for stories on the page… er, monitor.

I hope this little tidbit has enlightened you in some manner and degree, and by all means, if you’ve got a story in your head, let it out!  Start writing today, make that comic, start that novella. Hell, if you want, throw some ideas at me for feedback if you’d like, and I’d be more than happy to give you my two cents.  But, the most important thing is to tell the story that you want to tell, and to start today.  There’s no reason why you shouldn’t.
